Superb results for the European horses, Conduit defending his Turf title, and the excellent filly Goldikova in the mile........wasn't Zenyatta superb.....wold have liked to see her against Sea The Stars..........that would be fantastic (can you imagine the foal they would produce???  Amazing)

They all came back safe, and well done to all horses, jockeys, trainers and the lads and lasses that look after these megastars...........

Well done to all!

Goldikova, Zenyatta, Rachel Alexandra - it's the era of the mare, to be sure! Give it up, colts. (Oh, wait - they DID give it up!)

What a privilege to witness such greatness. The pundits are all comparing Zenyatta's amazing win to Secretariat's 31-length Belmont victory. She deserves all the uproar and is clearly one of the best racehorses in all of history.

After the much-deserved emotion of the moment subsides, I think that Rachel Alexandra will re-emerge as the top candidate for Horse of the Year, but I could make a case for either one of them.

What a race! And what a year - the 2 greatest fillies of all time, right before our eyes!

(Bloodhorse.com has the replay, if anybody missed it. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/53354/its-all-zenyatta-in-the-bc-classic)

There's now a youtube video of Zenyatta's unique and characteristic pre-race behavior. I've always enjoyed her "backstage" obstreporousness as much as her homestretch runs. Gotta love this mare!

And here's another link to the race replay. The image size is larger than the one on BH, and it has all the marvelous post-race commentary and exclamation:

Sorry guys.........THIS is a race horse!  The champion that is Sea The Stars, beaten Rip Van Winkle and Conduit every time they have come up against each other!

Watch and enjoy, the Prix De L'arc De Triomphe 2009.......perfection on four legs!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f824CU-F3rc

6 Grade/Group 1's in 6 months...........even Zenyatta and RA haven't got that record.  They are good, but he's better!  And yes, I am biased, but he's brilliant.

Neither of them - Conduit or Sea the Stars - has run against the leading ladies, Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta. So, we'll never know. The boys are both retired now. But Zenyatta beat Rip Van Winkle, and RA has already beaten horses who have finished ahead of him.

Here's a good summary of the battle between Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta for HOTY:

Another Sea THe Stars supporter here................. he was supposed to be going to the Breeders Cup but his young owner  would not risk flying him over and him being unsettled so far from home  and the fact that its a polytrack when he is used to grass tracks was another factor.  Shame I would have loved to have seen Zenyatta and him upsides each other would have been a cracking race, BUT I think Sea The Stars would have edged her out of the winners enclosure.  He is retired now and off to the paddocks to make a lot of ladies very happy, who knows  Zenyatta or RA  or even both may have nominations to him.  If they do then the  foals  would truly be something very special.

Words are not good enough for RA and Zenyatta, I am so honored to be alive to see them. I am thinking of names for her
first born, since she loves to dance- cross with Sea of Stars- Wedding" Dancing with the Stars",  Of course its a fantasy sigh, I am sure that her first breeding has already been planned.

I imagine that her owners have spent many an hour filling out a "dream dance card" for her! What a girl!

Steve Haskin has a magnificent tribute to her, just posted to Bloodhorse. He manages, as only he can, to rise to the occasion of her greatness:

Hoofprints so deep it will take an eternity to fill them . . . .
