Hi All,

Wanted to run in and give a quick update, there is still someone with Maya. We were blessed with a Palomino Filly tonight. She is very big and mamma had a hard time making progress so we jumped in to help. All looks good...Maya is very tired.

Running for joy  Happy New Year! Happy Birthday Running for joy

What determines when you should pull on the foal?  Maya seemed to be struggling more than some but some owners seem to pull the minute they see legs.  How do you know when?  I am glad the foal came.  The poor mare hasn't been having it easy these last few days.

That is a great question! We try to stay out of the way (most mares prefer that) unless there appears to be a problem. Maya was just not making progress and we were cutting it close on time so we decided to help. Even with assistance that was a very difficult foal to get out. We like to see the foal out within 20 minutes of seeing the sac, but it really is a case by case decision here and we certainly try to stay uninvolved when possible.

FIlly was standing the first time on it's own feet and Maye is up again. Great!

Really a nice and big palomino filly with very long legs.  It's a Filly!

You did it all right, as best as possible and it was the right decision to help Maya in this case with no progressing to get the foal out on her own. If you would have waited any longer the mare would have been to exhausted to push and it would has been a lot of stress for the foal, which was breathing heavy as she was out. I guess she was very happy to get out of the small way out of the mare.

Thanks for the priviledge to be a guest in your barn.  thanks

That is one determined filly with the longest legs. Maya (sorry for the
misspelling) is up but looks pretty weary. I want to give her a hug  BIG Hug!

Congrats! Valley Oaks and Maya.    wow a palamino filly.   She looks huge.    Maya giving her a jolly good clean up now.   Don't lick all that gold off Maya   Grin

Two almost together (little Haley over at Beautys Haven) so hard to concentrate on just the one.  Always so exciting.  Thanks Valley Oaks for welcoming us in.

Thanks for taking the time to answer a noobie.  It is amazing how quickly you become concerned over a mom and baby you will likely never meet and I appreciate having a better idea of what it going on.   Good to see them both up.
